Backlinks are not complicated. In its simplest form, they are “links back” to pages on your website. Every time you list your URL somewhere online, you have created a backlink. It is a signpost pointing to your website. Backlinks demonstrate that other entities recognize the existence of your URL.
Although the concept is very simple, the number of backlinks you have to your site is not the goal. Just as Google has begun judging the quality of the content we offer, it also judges the quality of your backlinks.

In life, others often judge us by the people with whom we surround ourselves. Google looks at backlinks this way. If they are finding your URL on popular industry sites or attached to articles that speak about subjects also found on your website, it reinforces Google’s interpretation of your identity. It also helps Google to determine where you should rank in relation to your competitors in the Google SERP.
Backlinks are important because of their value to Google search results. But, it doesn’t just stop there. Answering questions related to your industry on large forum sites like Quora is one easy way to create quality backlinks for your site. Simply answer questions that are relevant to your business and include a link to your website in your answers. It may also gain you traffic from others browsing the forum who are interested in similar topics.
There are forums online for almost every topic. If your business is related to sports, you will find a multitude of forums for every sport out there. Photography, marketing, environmental issues; it’s hard to find a topic without a related forum. Always choose the biggest and the best for your subject to make your backlinks count.
Just as there are forums on almost every topic, the same is true of blogs and podcasts. Getting your URL listed on popular blogs or podcast pages that relate to topics on your website.
